Kage no Eiyuu no Nichijou-tan Arc 3 – Chapter 1

What is the Magical Games Festival?

“The Magical Games Festival is coming up.”

During our morning homeroom.

Our blue-haired homeroom teacher, Sylphia-sensei, announced.

“…Magical Games Festival?”

“Tweight, you don’t know about it?”

Elysia, who sits next to me, reacts to the question that quietly slipped out of me.

I look around, and most of the students seem to know what the Magical Games Festival is. It seems to be a famous event in the Kingdom of Terraria, but unfortunately, I haven’t had the opportunity to take part in such an ostensible event, so I don’t know anything about it.

“Most of you might already know about this festival, but just in case, I will give a brief explanation. The Magical Games Festival is a school event that takes place twice a year for the high school department. In the middle of next month, the first years of the high school department, in other words, all of you will be able to participate in this festival!”

Sylphia-sensei glanced in my direction.

She seemed to have taken my ignorance of the Magical Games Festival into consideration. I give a small bow to convey my gratitude.

“As its name implies, the purpose of the Magical Games Festival is for students to compete with each other with magical techniques, but this event attracts a large crowd of spectators from outside the school. Furthermore, there aren’t only ordinary spectators: various nobles, renowned knights, and even adventurers may come and visit during this festival, so if you can appeal to them with your skills in this festival, you may improve your future career prospects.”

It appears to be quite a large-scale, fully-fledged event.

After hearing the explanation, the faces of my classmates showed that they were excited for this event.

“The event lasts for three days, and there are a total of nine events. As a general rule, all students are required to participate. As students in the first-year high school department, you will all be divided into two teams as designated by the Student Council. Each team should compete with each other earnestly, so you can make your life as a student more meaningful. Incidentally, the winning team will receive a cash prize.”

Sylphia-sensei explains without pause.

“How much is the cash prize?”

I ask Elysia in a small voice.

“Like in previous years, the winning team will be awarded 100,000 gold. But it’s an unwritten rule, or rather promise, that it would be used to purchase equipment for the school…”

“…So, in reality, there’s not going to be much left.”

It seems that if you’re aiming for the prize money, you’ll only be left with regret.

But even though the students know this, they’re still brimming with excitement.

From what I’ve heard so far, the Magical Games Festival is a good opportunity to appeal to the outside world with your true abilities. For students who intend to participate, this seems to be their main motivation.

I haven’t thought about my plans for the future at the moment, but for someone like Mize, who aspires to become an adventurer, this event isn’t simply someone else’s affair. It could be her first step to becoming a renowned adventurer in the future.

“The Magical Games Festival was cancelled last year due to the Great Hero-Demon War. That is why the festival this year is expected to garner a larger audience when compared to any previous year…This year’s festival is expected to be an event that will allow the people to truly understand that the war is over. All of us teachers will do our best to support you, so all of you should do your best as well.”

Seeing Sylphia-sensei’s gentle smile, the male students grew lively.

Although there was an age gap, Sylphia-sensei’s face still retains its youthful innocence, which allows her to create a familiar atmosphere with the students. Leaving aside whether or not they would develop a romantic relationship with her, it’s understandable that she would be popular among the students.

“Also, on the 13th of next month, the second day of the Magical Games Festival, the Lusectus Conference will begin.”

Sylphia-sensei informs us.

It may have been slight…but I noticed Gran react to that.

“The Lusectus Conference will be attended by the heads of the Kingdom of Terraria and the Kingdom of Valibar, who plan to discuss several diplomatic affairs. After the conference, the heads plan to go around the festival to spectate. In that sense, this year’s festival will attract more attention than in previous years.”

The Kingdom of Valibar is a country that neighbours the Kingdom of Terraria.

That country was small in size and had no outstanding features, but after the Fourth Great Hero-Demon War, it had unfortunately become famous, in a sense.

Lusectus is the name of a city in the Kingdom of Terraria.

That means the conference will take place in this country.

“And that marks the end of our morning homeroom. I believe that your teams should be announced during lunch break, so after confirming which team you are assigned to, please follow the instructions of your respective leaders from the Student Council.”

Sylphia-sensei said that, concluding our homeroom at the same time as the chime rang.

Translator’s Note:

I’m pretty sure Lusectus, ルセクタス (Rusekutasu) in Japanese, should be a reference to something, much like how the Kingdom of Terraria is a reference to Terraria (the game), the Royal Capital Mycura is a reference to Minecraft (the game), and the Dovecote Forest is a reference to Animal Crossing: Doubutsu no Mori (you guessed it, the game). Unfortunately, I have no clue what Lusectus is a reference to, so if anyone does, please tell me.
